Long, Long Ago

My friend sent me an email today. She was going through her old email folders, and found one that I sent to her on the 3rd of March, 2003. (My now-fiance will be referred to as 'T').

Hee hee hee, I have so very much to tell you, I think I'll just skip straight to the 'love life' bit. Well, it's still non-existent, but... I don't know. Could possibly be progressing... maybe. I don't know. But anyway, I'll start from the beginning. I've liked T from my church from about the beginning of February. He's in our group and everything, so that's cool. Well, Nathan, Grant & I went to the flower shop just before Valentines day, looking for a present for Grant's girlfriend. Nathan & I saw these cute bears, they had patches on them, and they were holding hearts. Awww! But yeah, I decided to get one for T, and Nathan got one for the girl he likes. We put them in gift bags and put a Chupa Chup in there, too. We wrote out gift cards that said 'Dear T, Thinking of you... Love always...' It was so funny, on the morning of Valentines Day, I picked up Nathan at 6:00 and we drove to his crush's house & stuck it into the letter box. Then we drove to T's house and Nathan sneaked up to the door and hung it on the handle. It was really nerve-racking, but funny.

Then that night I had a get-together at my house, and T came. He was eating the Chupa Chup when he walked in the door! My sister called me over to our room, and we both burst out laughing. :o) But yeah, that was cool. Then the next night, after Youth Group, we all went to the lookout (which is just up the road from T's house... and I know, it's usually for druggies and stuff, but we just go up there to talk) and I was interrogating T about who he thinks it was that gave him the Valentine, etc. He wouldn't say anything, but he said he had a good idea. To cut a long story short, he ended up finding out, because I told Lexi that she could tell Shane to tell T (Lexi, who was in the car with me on the way home, was on the phone to Shane, who was at T's house). Well anyway, since then we have been becoming really good friends, and he rang me last Monday night. We were talking about the Valentine, and...

T - "So, why did you send me a Valentine?"
A - "The same reason anyone sends someone a Valentine."
T - "Because you like me...?"
A - "Yeah."
T - "So what happens now?"
A - "I don't know."
T - "I guess the ball's in my court, then?"
A - "Yeah, I guess so"

But yeah, he brought it up again after that, and he said that he likes me heaps as a person, but romantically not that much. He really wants to get to know me as a friend, though, and if something happens from there, that'd be cool, but if not, that's OK too. I asked what he meant by 'romantically not that much', like if he means 'not at all', and he said that he does a bit, but probably not to the extent that I like him, and that he's confused at the moment. We were talking for three hours on the phone, it rocked.

Then on Tuesday night we had School of the Bible together, then I saw him on Wednesday night for Home Group and we talked on the phone for an hour after that, then on Thursday night I was working late and we talked on the phone for about 45 minutes and then we all went to the movies that night, then on Friday night T and I, along with two friends went to Cyber Games and then to the Coffee Club (then T and I talked for ages in his car after that), then on Saturday I saw him at Youth (and afterwards at Hungry Jacks), and on Sunday we had church, then the guys came back to my house to play cards, then we had church again, and then talked at a cafe near our church, and then when I got home we were talking on the phone for almost an hour, too. It's been so fantastic, I've got to know him HEAPS, he's so very awesome.

Last night at the cafe, we were at different tables, and I messaged him telling him to come over to our table. He rang me (because it was free time, since we're both with Optus), telling me to come over there. Brendan (our Home Group leader), goes to T "Man, you're desperate!" Meaning it in the non-against-Alyssa way, of course (he explained), like that he's desperate for me, not that he's desperate for ringing me or anything. Yeah. And then Rebekah was interrogating him, asking if he likes me, etc. He referred them to Dale, and Dale was going "They're just friends!", but T said Dale had a huge smile on his face, so that didn't really help him out very much. :o) It was funny!

Then after that I was talking to him on the phone, and he was in the car with Ian. He was being mean to Ian (in jest, of course!) and Ian said "Ok, get out of my car!!!" then T said "No, I'm sorry", and Ian said that he'll only forgive him if he asked me out. So T goes "Alyssa, will you go to the movies with me sometime?" I said OK, and Ian goes "That's not good enough, you have to set a date!" and he suggested my birthday (which is in 27 days!!!), or the day before or something. He didn't end up setting a date, but T said afterwards that we really should go to the movies sometime. :o) And he's been saying that we should go clothes shopping one day, and go to an AFL game, and go to the movies together, etc...

He even proposed to me! Ian put a welcome message on T's phone saying 'Propose to Alyssa today!' T told me about it on the phone, and I go "So are you going to do it or not?!" :o) And he goes "Alyssa, will you marry me?" I said "Oh, OK then!" We've been kinda joking about it since then, like he's been saying that I have to get a really good job so that I can support the family while he sits around all day doing nothing (well, he said he'd be praying and reading the Bible, trying to make it sound holy and all!), and when we were talking about our favourite cars, he said his is a Subaru or something, and I said mine's a Toyota. T said that he wants to get 4 Subarus, same model, just different colours, and he said "You could drive one of the Subarus, or we can just get a few Toyotas as well..." notice the 'we'? Very interesting indeed. But yeah, I believe him when he says he doesn't like me that much romantically, but I'm positive he considers me a prospect (and possibly a very good prospect). And I'm sure that we'll become better and better friends, and he'll probably begin to think of me romantically. In my heart, I'm almost certain that something will happen someday... but that could just be my feelings getting the better of me.

Either way, I'm not going to try and start anything. I want to be friends first, too. I made a list of things a guy would have to do before I'll begin a relationship with him, and one of them is 'known me as a friend for more than 6 months'... wow, only 5 months to go. :oP :o) But he's seriously the most awesome guy. :o) I really like him. Yay!!!

Wow, I think that's all in that area! Goodness gracious, when it comes to T, I sure can blab on!!!

It's amazing how much has happened in just over a year! :o) Wow.

A little bit of advice...

Here's some advice from me to you (it is also a note-to-self):

Always keep your bank statements, especially for any credit cards you have. I'm currently in the process of applying for a personal loan. The bank I'm applying through needed official copies of my credit card statements for the past 6 months (they wouldn't accept the ones I printed out from internet banking). Because I use internet banking, I don't keep the statements they sent to me in the mail. Big mistake! I went into the bank my credit card is through, and they charged me a total of $48 for the 6 monthly statements! Ouch. That hurts. :o(

Things I Noticed About Adelaide...

* There are some very strange people, especially in the pub/hotel we went to (for a ROAST LUNCH, nothing else!) :o)

* It's freezing cold, especially when my fiance and I visit. (Note that it was a lovely, warm 30 degrees mere days before we went! That happened last time, too)

* They call the shirts that football players wear 'guernseys' instead of the normal 'jerseys'.

* Most of the houses have a strange red-brick / sandstone combination... which I do not particularly like. (Ewww, gross!!!)

* Instead of their street lights being white, they are orange, which makes it really confusing (for me, anyway), and makes you (me) think that you're (I'm) always coming up to a set of traffic lights.

I think that's all. God bless Adelaide. It's a great place. It has lovely paddle boats, and a cable hang-gliding place, and a zoo... Oh, the possibilities! And it produces some mighty fine people (i.e. my fiance)!!!

I'm done. I'm sure there was more I wanted to say, but it's slipped my mind. I'll probably think of it later today. :o)

Wednesday Mind Hump

First, as a warm up, using the letters I-N-S-A-N-E reveal six things about yourself.

I:: Intricately woven
N:: New creation
S:: Sunny & cheerful
A:: Anticipating Serendipity
N:: Nitpicker
E:: Ever seeking

1. What's the best pickup line you ever heard and did it work? :: I've never had a pickup line used on me (insert sad violin music here). *sob sob* :o) It's all good. Don't need (or want) any of that, anyway!

2. If you were a character in The Wizard of Oz, who or what would you be? :: I would so be Dorothy! The sweet, innocent little girl... who loves her puppy dog... and helps people... yeah.

3. If you were an element of weather, what would you be? :: I would be a sun-shower. Even when it's raining, the sun's still shining through. :o) Deep.

4. If you were a breed of dog, what would you be and why? :: I'd be a mini fox terrier. Quiet, serene and sleepy, but then has outbursts of random barking and mad sprinting around the house.

5. If you were a toy or a game, what would you be and why? :: I'd be a teddy bear. Cute, cuddly, and a big ol' softie.

Wow...

I just had to post a link to this post in Amey's blog. That's it, Amey's site is going on my blogroll. Truly amazing insights. :o)

They mostly come out at night... mostly...

My dream last night...
My friend Jill had a baby (well, another one). It was a little girl, about one week old. I was holding her up to the window so she could see out, and I was talking to her, saying "Look, what's that? What's that?" To my surprise, she said "train station." (There was really a train station outside). I told Jill, and the baby said it again - "train station". Then I asked her to say 'mummy', 'elephant' and some other words, and she did. Then she started talking in complete sentences! Weird.

So, two of our good friends got engaged on Sunday! About time, too. :o) They started going out the day before my fiance and I did, and they're getting married exactly six months after we do. :o) We're beating them! Yay! Not that it's a competition or anything...

We're having a Substation Challenge tonight at church. It's where all of the Youth Home Groups (that meet on Tuesday and Wednesday nights) have competitions, and present skits. Our skit is more of a song, but hey. Every group has to have a theme for their clothing, and ours is 80's punk. I'm wearing a pink shirt with a black singlet top over it, black leggings with a pink skirt over them, blue ankle socks and joggers, lots of eye makeup and lipstick, funky black and white striped earrings, and my hair held up with lots of hairspray and a pink scrunchie. It's going to be so fun! All the girls and I are dancing, while the guys play a song (with guitars, drums and singers). We're SO going to win!!! Hopefully...

Our act includes a Self-Promotion Remix of the song 'Forward Motion' by Relient K. We changed the lyrics... This is how our version goes:

You’ve been banging your head against the wall
‘Coz you didn’t go to Home Group on Wednesday night
Yeah, at Shailer Park

Shailer Park Home Group is the best
Better than all of the rest
And you’ll still remember that when you get old

If you want dodgy doctrine, yes
Don’t come to us, ‘coz we are the very best
Too many turns, you’ve turned out to be wrong
This time you learnt that we were the greatest all along

Where healings occur, and we’re not what we were
You'll see that you should, and you'll see that it’s good
That it’s good

To experience the power of God
To hear His Word, and have some fun
To experience the power of God
To hear His Word, and have some fun

‘Coz our Home Group’s in forward motion
Our Home Group’s in forward motion
Our Home Group’s in forward motion…

Forward motion is harder than it sounds
But if you come to Shailer Park, you’ll never slow down again
It’s harder than it sounds
But if you come to Shailer Park, you’ll never turn around again

Dude, when my mom finds out that my babysitters have their boyfriends over, she mostly gets really mad, mostly.

Will you tell me what they look like? The meteor shower. They mostly come every few years, mostly.

Hooray! Yes. I'm gonna have your and your boyfriend's voices on my Speak and Record bear, and then you'll mostly never babysit me again! Mostly.

Happiness sneaks in...

This is so funny! And also, extremely eloquent and... You know... Speak good... Well speakish. :o) I like those guys at Sillyness Spelled Wrong Intentionally. They're special. Not in a Mary Tyler Moore way, or an extra value meal at Happy Burger way... Ahem. Digression not good. Is digression an actual word? Hang on, yes, it is. Sweet. That's special. :o) (Ooops, I digressed again, didn't I? Oh darn it.)

My future brother-in-law just called me!!! He just asked me to pick up some books for him, and they'll pay me back when we go to Adelaide this weekend. But it was SCARY. So I get a call from my future mother-in-law and future brother-in-law, both in the space of a week! Very scary indeed. It's like I'm becoming part of the family, or something... But seriously, it's unnerving. I'm fine with the whole getting a husband thing, but there's a whole heap of other people that I didn't even think about. And I'm meeting them all this weekend at our Adelaide engagement party! Eeeeek! I can imagine being so exhausted by the end of it... I'm extremely glad that Monday's a public holiday, so I can sleep all day when we get back to Brisbane. But anyway, I'm officially freaked out.

One singular sensation...

We were watching a bit of 'Gone With The Wind' last night, the part where the daughter fell off of the horse and died.
My fiance - "Gee, they didn't make kids very good those days!"

Phone Conversation...
Me - "Hello, Alyssa speaking."
Man - "Hi, can I speak to Leonie please?"
Me - "Sure. Who may I say is calling?"
Man - "Um, George Foreman, Heavyweight champion of the United States."
Me - "I'll just put you through, Bill."

My boss gave me a belated birthday present today! It's a book called 'The Heavenly Man', by Brother Yun with Paul Hattaway. It looks like a good read. :o) Awww, I got a present!

My future mother-in-law called me today! She told me to put all of our accounts, etc. into joint names when we get married. That was pretty much it. I laughed out loud when I hung up, it was so funny! She's never called me before. Interesting... :o)

Long Weekends and Daisy Chains...

My Good Friday experiences:

* We were driving on the highway at 100km/h, and some buckets fell off of the truck in front of us! We hit a bucket, and had to pull over, because it was stuck underneath the front of the car, scraping along the road.

* We were stopped at some traffic lights, and I saw a guy cleaning windscreens! Like in the movies! I've never seen one in real life before!

* We were playing mini-golf, and I hit the ball a little too hard. It went down a waterfall to where some other people were playing... My fiance went to get it back, and said to the guy "It didn't hit anyone, did it?" He replied, "It didn't hurt..." Whoopsy!

* We were at a restaurant, and ordered some garlic bread and pizza. The garlic bread came first. We ate it all, and the waiter took the plate away. A few minutes later, another waiter came, and gave us some garlic bread. We were confused, and then called him back and told him that we already had our garlic bread. He apologised, and said he must've taken it to the wrong table.

See?!? Who said my life was boring? Full of adventures, that's what it is! :o)

On Monday, it'll be one year since my fiance and I started going out! We're going down to the coast. We'll be having dinner at Hog's Breath Cafe, then going to Infinity, then glow-in-the-dark bowling, then mini-golfing. It will be so fun! :o) I'm happy. Yay!!!

OK, even though it's Wednesday, I'm going to do the Monday Music Mambo. It looks fun. Here we go:

A:: Add It Up (Violent Femmes)
L:: Let Me Go (Good Charlotte)
Y:: Yes And Amen (Hillsong Music Australia)
S:: Sometimes (Britney Spears)
S:: Silly Shoes (Kind Of Pluto)
A:: Ain't No Sunshine (Bill Withers)

Rather Funny, Don't You Think?

I saw the funniest thing on TV last night! It was on a new show, 'Hamish and Andy'. It went a little something like this:

An old black and white silent movie: "Fruity Eye For The Sensible Chap."

A man with a moustache, wearing a suit with a frilly-collared shirt approaches a sophisticated man wearing a sensible suit.

Fruity Man - Hey, that's a nice shirt!
Sensible Chap - Why, thank you very much.
FM - It could be a bit more frilly, though.
SC - I beg your pardon?!?!
FM - Just a thought. You do have rather nice shoulders.

Sensible Chap takes out a pistol and shoots Fruity Man. Fruity Man dies in a dramatic, extravagent manner.

I'd LOVE to live there!

I came across someone today who lives on 'Dead Horse Lane'. How charming.

I'm Amused...

Man, my boss is cracking me up! He’s being nice, in a funny, joking way. He asked if all the accounts were reconciled up until February, and I said…
“They must be, I don’t have any bank statements in my inbox.”
“That’s not quite the same as saying ‘I remember doing them’!”
“I don’t remember doing them…”
I almost cracked up laughing! Sure, to the unsuspecting ears (or eyes, in this case), it doesn’t seem funny… but it was. Just believe me, OK? :o)

Then, because we’ve had some painting done today, he came and asked whether I wanted the door open because of the fumes! And he opened it for me! When I got over the shock (he’s not usually that nice), I had a bit of a chuckle.

And, he’s wearing jeans and a plaid shirt for casual Friday! Usually I’m the only one who dresses down on Fridays! I’ve started a trend, I tell ya. :o)

But oh! How I’m enjoying today! Although I’m at work, I’m really amusing myself, and having a good time. :o) God is so good! ‘Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.’

My Birthday!

It was my 21st birthday on Tuesday! And I was sick in bed all day! :o( I woke up with some sort of stomach bug, which caused vomiting and diarrhea. Fun! But in the evening we went to my Mum's house for dinner and I didn't feel too bad, just a bit unsettled in the stomach. So that bit was good! And on Monday night I had a get-together with some of my friends, which rocked. :o)

Yes, it's Thursday, but I just got back to work after being sick (insert sad violin music here), so give me a break. :o)

Leonie and John are currently talking about the keys to financial security (which they heard from Anthony Robbins). The basic gist is 'being so focussed on the goal (i.e. getting money) and driven by it, that it's your primary ambition'. This is a load of garbage. Here's a better way: Give your life to God, and tithe. God said, in Malachi 3:10, "Bring your full tithe to the Temple treasury so there will be ample provisions in My Temple. Test Me in this and see if I don't open up heaven itself to you and pour out blessings beyond your wildest dreams." This is the only time in the Bible that God tells us to test Him. Interesting, isn't it? I especially like the last five words (in the Message translation): 'blessings beyond your wildest dreams'!!! Yeah! So I don't have to worry if financial situations seem tough. God has already promised that He'll bless me with all I need and more. :o) God rocks!!!
